About RemoveImageMetadata
RemoveImageMetadata is a free online tool that removes hidden data from photos before you share them: GPS location, phone or camera model, serial numbers, capture dates, editing history and more. It works in any browser, on phone or desktop, with no account.
How it works
JPEG, PNG and WebP files are made of blocks: the compressed picture itself, and separate blocks of metadata such as EXIF, XMP, IPTC, comments or text chunks. When you keep the same format, the tool rebuilds the file from its blocks and leaves out every metadata block. The picture data is copied as is, so the result is lossless: every pixel is identical to the original.
Two technical items are kept because they contain no personal information and are needed to display the photo as before: the ICC color profile (without it, colors can look washed out) and the orientation flag (without it, many photos would appear sideways).
When you choose to convert to another format, the image is decoded and re-encoded at the quality you pick, with the rotation applied to the pixels.
After cleaning, the tool shows a report of what it found in each file, so you can see what would have been shared.
Privacy first
Files are processed on our server and deleted automatically and permanently 10 minutes later. We do not keep copies, backups or logs of your images, and the site uses no analytics, advertising trackers or cookies. Details are in our privacy policy.
Guides
Our guides explain what photo metadata is, what each app and platform does with it, and how to remove it on every device, including methods that do not need our tool.
Funding
The tool is free and has no premium version. Hosting is paid by donations and, in some guides, by clearly labeled affiliate links.
